      Steve practiced in Hong Kong for three years, at a time when very few American lawyers lived there - back when it was still a British Crown Colony, had no securities laws, Gurkha troops guarded the border with "China" and the standard work week was 6 days and 6 nights.  Asked if he learned to speak Cantonese, Steve replied, "No, I learned to speak Money."  That's Hong Kong.

     Steve led many deals from his Coudert Brothers (law firm) office overlooking Hong Kong harbor -for clients such as Citibank, Bank of America, Mitsui, Nippon Credit, AEIBC & LTCBJ.   Steve’s deals ($30 million to $500 million) involved money from all over the world and borrowers from India, Australia, Thailand, the Philippines, Taiwan, Korea and more.  Steve personally conducted negotiations and due-diligence in major project finance (LNG, mining, refineries), government-guaranteed jumbo loans and multi-tranche worldwide loan syndications (optional-currency / optional-interest-base), tanker finance, default workouts, asset recovery and creative advice on Comptroller of the Currency regulations.
